Low-Fat Air Fryer Peri Peri Chicken (Nando’s Style)
Love the flavour of Nando’s but want a lighter version that’s kinder to your digestion? These Air Fryer Peri Peri Chicken Breasts are packed with smoky, zesty flavour while keeping the fat content low. They’re quick to prepare, perfect for meal prep, and ideal served with rice, salad, or roasted vegetables.
I’ve been living without a gallbladder for over 20 years, and this is one of those recipes I come back to time and time again. By using fat-free Greek yoghurt instead of lots of oil, you still get tender, juicy chicken without making the recipe unnecessarily rich.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- High in lean protein
- Easy to adjust the spice level
- Perfect for meal prep
- Ready in around 30 minutes (plus marinating time)
- Great with salads, rice or vegetables
- Much healthier than takeaway peri peri chicken
Is Peri Peri Chicken Gallbladder-Friendly?
Yes—for many people, it can be.
Skinless chicken breast is naturally lean and one of the easiest proteins to digest after gallbladder surgery. Using fat-free Greek yoghurt in the marinade keeps the fat content low while helping the chicken stay moist and tender.
The only ingredient that may cause problems for some people is the chilli. If you’ve recently had your gallbladder removed or you’re still discovering your trigger foods, simply reduce the chilli powder or leave it out altogether. You’ll still get plenty of flavour from the smoked paprika, garlic and lime.
Remember, everyone’s digestion is different. If spicy foods don’t agree with you yet, it’s perfectly fine to make a milder version.

Ingredients
Chicken
- 4 skinless chicken breasts
Peri Peri Marinade
- 4 tbsp fat-free Greek yoghurt

- 2 tsp garlic granules (or 2 cloves fresh garlic, crushed)
- 2 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp hot smoked paprika (optional)
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp chilli powder (adjust to taste)
How to Make Air Fryer Peri Peri Chicken

- Arrange the chicken breasts in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
- Cook for 16–22 minutes, turning halfway through if your air fryer cooks unevenly.
- Check the thickest part of the chicken with a meat thermometer. It should reach 74°C before serving.
- Leave the chicken to rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
Rachel’s Tip
If you’re meal prepping, make extra chicken while the air fryer is on. It keeps well in the fridge for up to 3 days and is delicious sliced into wraps, salads, rice bowls or sandwiches.
